Covid-19 Update for 2/24/2021

Synopsis: San Diego County officials are hopeful as they are seeing a continued decrease in cases as well as a decrease in positive tests.  If numbers proceed in this direction, there is a chance we can get bumped down to a Red Tier VERY SOON!  The news of late has been positive HOWEVER, it is important to remember those we lost this past year as well as those who are still suffering. It is vital to stay vigilant & safe to keep in the right direction.

Statewide Updates:

    • FDA Analysis Of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine Finds It Safe, Effective

The Food and Drug Administration released an analysis of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday morning that supports its authorization for emergency use. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine has some advantages. Immunization with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires only one shot, unlike the two-shot dosing for the vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine also doesn’t require special refrigeration for shipment and storage. Read more here.

    • Gov. Newsom Signs $7.6 Billion Stimulus Package

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a $7.6 billion coronavirus relief package on Tuesday that will give at least $600 one-time payments to 5.7 million people while setting aside more than $2 billion in grants for struggling small businesses. To read more, click here.

Vaccinations in San Diego

    • 80K COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Arriving in Region

Nearly 80,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses shipped to San Diego County have begun arriving in the region, allowing for the rescheduling of all missed second doses and the widespread resumption of first dose appointments. Click here to read more!

In a bid to vaccinate 1.9 million San Diegans against COVID-19 by July, the county and local health systems have launched immunization sites throughout the region including several superstations capable of delivering 5,000 shots a day. Safe Reopening
